Swim Meet Chief Judge Clinic For Officials

Last updated on July 19th, 2022 at 07:35 am

Do you train swim meet officials, or want to be a better Chief Judge? Here’s a great PowerPoint file created by Linda Eaton, of Colorado Swimming. She uses it when teaching a clinic called, “How to Be a Better Chief Judge.” It is a great starting point if you want to create a PowerPoint presentation to teach others about being a Chief Judge.  It also shares helpful information for individual officials to review or learn. Just as there is no one right way to run a swim meet, there are many right ways to officiate. Why reinvent the wheel? Save time and energy instead! Use, and if needed change, the following information to best suit your needs.  It’s a win-win! Swimmers and coaches benefit from better officiating. Volunteers and other officials benefit by saving time as they gain increased knowledge and understanding.

This post is part of a series featuring Chief Judge Materials from Linda Eaton. Linda, an experienced meet referee and officials mentor, has developed many resources to help swim meet officials.

Clinic Focus

To help officials learn how to better fill the role of Chief Judge at LSC (USA Swimming Local Swim Committee), regional or national championship meets.

Chief Judge Basics

The PowerPoint covers the basics of being a Chief Judge at the local level, including details of the disqualification (DQ) process from a Chief Judge’s perspective.

Regional Level

It teaches some of the expectations of being a Chief Judge at regional championship meets.

National Level

The presentation points out that a Chief Judge at the national level is pretty much like being one at the regional level, but things run a WHOLE LOT faster.

Governance Note

  1. The information presented in this PowerPoint file is compliant with USA-Swimming Rules and Regulations as of February 2018.
  2. Officiating procedures vary.  Variances on points not specifically governed by the rules and regulations are acceptable.
