Why Use a Standard Radio Protocol at Swim Meets?

Much of what officials communicate has to do with possible disqualifications. Therefore, it’s important that the referee receives and records accurate information. It can be more effective to understand and follow a standard script because it organizes the information. Then, the Deck Referee can record the facts quickly and accurately. This is because it comes in the format they need. Additionally, it helps ensure that all the needed information is conveyed.

Keep Radio Talk Succinct

It’s important to keep communication succinct. It can be very hard to hear clearly on some radios. People understand concise, predictable communication better. It also keeps the line open for others’ needs.

Quick and Easy to Share

The best part about this resource? It’s quick and easy to share. You can email it to your officials before the swim meet (preferred), or give it to them at the meet. It doesn’t take long for others to read and understand. Additionally, the one-page format makes it easy for trainees to reference if needed.
