No Show Report

Some swim meets have a “No Show” penalty if a swimmer enters an event, does not scratch, and does not show up for the event. If this is the case, some type of “No Show” report form is helpful to coordinate the reporting of the “No Show” from the deck referee to administrative personnel. Then, to track the penalty process.

Here is one way to use this form. It is important that both deck referee(s) and swim meet admin personnel understand and use the same process. Verify the adopted process with the meet referee prior to the start of the meet.

  • When a swimmer fails to report to the blocks at a meet with a “No Show” penalty, the No Show Report is completed.
  • The deck referee starts the process by completing the portion of this No Show Report above and including the “Referee” line.
  • The deck referee signs and gives the form to the admin personnel as agreed.
  • The admin personnel records the “No Show” on the computer and finds the information to complete the rest of the form.
  • The admin personnel updates the computer with the penalty information including scratching the swimmer from their next event.
  • The admin personnel completes the remaining portion at the bottom of the “No Show” report.
  • The admin personnel then gives the report to the deck referee scheduled to start the penalized swimmer’s next event so they can record the penalty scratch and ensure the swimmer does not compete in that event.
  • The deck referee scheduled to start the penalized swimmer’s next event records the penalty scratch on their event paperwork and notifies the starter of the penalty.
  • The “No Show” report is returned to the admin personnel and filed with the event paperwork.
    • NOTE: It is helpful to record in the paperwork for both events — the original “No Show” event and the penalty scratch event. For example, on the penalty scratch event paperwork, the admin personnel may record that it is a penalty scratch from a “No Show” in _ event. On the original “No Show” event paperwork, the admin personnel record the event number of the penalty scratch event.
  • Admin personnel may also choose to keep a running list of all “No Show” reports and penalties on a “No Show” Record.

No Show Record

The No Show Record is a list of all the “No Shows” received and processed at the meet. It is kept by the swim meet administrative personnel.
